Mirelle Vallet, b. 1954

Mireille Vallet is an oceanographer and lived in different countries in Africa for around 15 years. Since 1996 she makes very small (20x20cm) as well as larger objects in patchwork, embroidery and mixed techniques, for instance glass-in-fabric. Many of her objects are transparent and can also be used as a lighting object.
The abundance of materials she uses, shows a fascination for fabrics. She wants to create a motive, convey an idea or an impression through characteristics such as colour, texture, fineness, thickness, translucency and even wear and tear. In recent work, the fabrics found are point of departure for a story, preferably situated in the Mediterranean region.
Originating from the south of France, she loves this area and through her stay there, also the culture of Africa and the Middle East. Her landscapes (in reality or imaginary) are mostly composed of sea, desert, islands, cities of earth and stone, and ruins. Very present in her work are the colours indigo, madder and the water theme, the liveliness as well as the translucency of which she explores.
Price indication €600.00 - €1,200.00.
