Elke Schmidt, b. 1963

Elke Schmidt

Elke Schmidt was trained as a gobelin weaver in Nürnberg, Germany, and completed a separate placement with the renowned Victorian Tapestry Workshop in Melbourne, Australia. She receives commissions from private individuals, architects and churches (paraments).

In her free work of the last few years, she has concentrated on tapestries that not only deviate from the rectangular shape, but even have fully fluent lines.

For us she designed the "Yellow wing", the concave line of which exactly follows the spherical shape of the wardrobe mirror. This  upgrades the hat rack consisting of S-shaped brushed metal and an oval mirror to a unique piece of furniture.

Elke Schmidt: "Tapestries are superior to paintings in their colour action, because the refraction of the light on the woven surface makes the colours radiate more strongly. That is why I want to capture the magnificence of the colours with techniques particular to gobelin weaving, the ridges and colour transitions, and create self-willed mural objects with moved shapes."

Price indication of work displayed here €1,500 - €4,400.00.
